No Attack on Sokoto Cathedral or Kukah’s Home, Military Clarifies

The Nigerian Army has dismissed as false and misleading reports of an armed attack on the residence of Bishop Matthew Kukah and the Sokoto Catholic Cathedral.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for the 8 Division and Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, said the military’s attention was drawn to a misleading social media post circulating on Facebook that falsely claimed an attack on the cleric’s home and the cathedral.

The Army categorically debunked the claims, stressing that no such attack occurred in Sokoto State. It added that the safety and security of Bishop Kukah and the cathedral remain intact, and that the bishop is currently carrying out his Easter duties without any disruption.

The military reassured residents of its commitment to protecting lives and property in collaboration with other security agencies, noting that robust security measures have been put in place to ensure a peaceful and secure Easter celebration.
