Northern CAN Launches Christmas Food Drive, Aids 5,000 Vulnerable Families

The Northern Christian Association of Nigeria (Northern CAN) has launched a massive Christmas humanitarian initiative, distributing essential food items to 5,000 vulnerable households across northern Nigeria. The organization, in partnership with the UK-based Barnabas Aid Foundation, targeted widows, persons living with disabilities, victims of religious violence, and internally displaced families in the region.
The distribution event, held on Wednesday, saw the delivery of food items including rice, beans, maize, garri, groundnut oil, palm oil, sugar, seasoning cubes, and salt, aimed at easing the burden of families during the festive season.
Speaking at the event, Rev. Joseph Hayab, Chairman of Northern CAN, described the initiative as both a spiritual and humanitarian gesture. “The Northern Christian Association has received support from Barnabas Aid to assist victims of violence, vulnerable individuals, and persons with disabilities,” Hayab said. “We are currently targeting 1,000 families in Chikun and Kajuru local government areas here in Kaduna.”
Hayab emphasized that the initiative goes beyond material support, as the organization also engages in prayers with the recipients to show that someone cares and that they are not alone. The initiative extends beyond Kaduna State, reaching Bauchi, Plateau, Benue, and other northern states affected by violence and displacement. More communities are expected to benefit from the programme in the coming days.
