NRS Academy to launch digital learning platform for staff training

The Nigeria Revenue Service Academy has announced plans to unveil a digital Learning Experience Platform on May 20 as part of efforts to modernise staff training.

The initiative marks a shift from periodic classroom sessions to a continuous, technology-driven learning model aimed at supporting professional development and career growth.

According to the Academy’s director, Adeolu Akinyemi, the platform will deliver training through microlearning modules, scenario-based exercises, gamified experiences, and interactive simulations. This approach allows staff to learn in short, practical sessions at their own pace.

The system will also incorporate a digital reward economy featuring experience points, virtual coins, and digital badges. Leaderboards will track and rank performance across directorates, departments, regions, and individual staff members.

Akinyemi noted that learning would no longer be seen as a periodic obligation but as a continuous, self-driven process that is practical, engaging, and rewarding.

The platform is designed to empower staff to take ownership of their learning paths, track progress, and access training content on demand from any location.

The Academy intends to use the platform to identify candidates for promotions, specialised assignments, and international opportunities based on competence scores and recorded learning activity.

A digital reward marketplace with redeemable benefits will further encourage participation and consistent learning among staff.

Ahead of the launch, the Academy will conduct sensitisation campaigns, onboarding sessions, pilot programmes, and demonstration exercises to prepare staff for the rollout.

Akinyemi stated that the platform is expected to enhance knowledge transfer, strengthen operational readiness, and improve overall service delivery. The goal is to build a workforce that learns continuously, adapts quickly, and applies knowledge effectively.

The new system is also expected to promote transparency and fairness in access to opportunities, as learning achievements and performance will be visible across the organisation.

The launch is part of the Nigeria Revenue Service’s broader agenda to build a technology-enabled, efficient, and globally competitive institution, marking a significant step in ongoing reforms to modernise tax administration and human capital development.
