NSCDC Launches 24-Hour Surveillance Across Kwara to Boost Security

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has commenced round-the-clock security surveillance across Kwara State, with particular focus on Ilorin metropolis and the protection of critical national assets.

Kwara State Commandant Bala Bawa Bodinga announced the new security measure in Ilorin on Thursday, shortly after assuming leadership of the command. He stated that the strategy aims to strengthen public safety and restore confidence in the state’s security architecture.

Bodinga explained that his deployment followed directives from the Commandant-General, Ahmed Abubakar Audi, to enhance operational effectiveness and ensure tighter protection of infrastructure and public spaces.

“I was directed by the Commandant-General to take charge of operations here and ensure that critical national assets and infrastructure are adequately protected,” he said.

The commandant revealed that the security blueprint under his watch would be intelligence-driven, combining visible patrols with discreet operational measures. He noted that surveillance within Ilorin had become continuous, particularly at night.

“We have commenced 24-hour surveillance within Ilorin metropolis. You can move around Ilorin at night and you will find our officers maintaining constant surveillance. There has not been a single night without patrol since I assumed duty,” Bodinga stressed.

Addressing recent security concerns in Kaiama area, the NSCDC boss confirmed that additional personnel had been deployed to reinforce stability. “We have sent more men to Kaiama and the situation there is under control,” he said.

He also announced enhanced security measures for religious gatherings across the state, mandating adequate coverage for Friday Jumu’ah prayers and Sunday church services.

“All Jumu’ah prayers on Fridays must have adequate security coverage. The same arrangement applies to churches during Sunday services and other major gatherings. Worship centres must be safe for our people,” he declared.

Bodinga emphasised that collaboration with other security agencies would be a cornerstone of his administration, adding that he had already initiated contact with counterparts to strengthen intelligence sharing and joint operations.

The commandant underscored the importance of continuous professional training for officers, noting that some capacity-building exercises would be conducted discreetly. He also disclosed that modalities for VIP protection had been activated.

“All modalities for VIP protection have been activated. We are ready to respond to requests, but we ask for time to fully deploy our resources,” he stated.

Bodinga called on residents to support security agencies with credible information, assuring that improved security would be delivered across the state.

“With the support of other security agencies and the people of Kwara State, we will deliver improved security. Give us a little time, and you will see a new face of security in this state,” he assured.

The Harmattan News reports that Bala Bodinga officially assumed duty as Kwara NSCDC Commandant on Monday, February 16, 2026, following approval by the Commandant-General as part of a strategic nationwide reshuffle. He succeeds Dr Umar J.G. Mohammed, who served in the role for approximately two years.
