Obidient Movement Reaffirms Support for Peter Obi After ADC Exit

The Obidient Movement Worldwide has reaffirmed its unwavering support for former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, stating that efforts to undermine his political relevance ahead of the 2027 elections have only served to boost his popularity.
In a statement on Sunday, the movement’s Interim National Coordinator, Yunusa Tanko, said Obi’s appeal continues to grow across the country despite sustained attempts to frustrate his political ambitions. He noted that new support structures, including the “Peter Obi 4 President Movement” led by Awal Kuka, have now established a presence in 19 states across Northern Nigeria.
Tanko dismissed claims that opposition to the former Anambra State governor was weakening his base, insisting that grassroots mobilisation in his favour is expanding. The movement remains resolute in its message of political reform and national renewal.
The renewed endorsement follows Obi’s recent departure from the African Democratic Congress, which he announced on Sunday. Citing internal crises and a worsening national condition, Obi said his decision came after deep personal reflection and what he described as “silent pains” experienced while navigating Nigeria’s political space.
He clarified that his exit was not due to any personal grievances with ADC leaders, including former Senate President David Mark or former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, both of whom he said he continues to respect. Rather, he pointed to recurring internal disputes, endless court cases, and a political culture built on control and exclusion rather than service and nation-building.
Obi stressed that he is not desperate for any political office but is driven by a desire to see a Nigeria where people can live without hunger, fear, or displacement. Despite leaving the ADC, he reaffirmed his belief that a new and better Nigeria remains possible.
