Ogun Court Remands Woman for Pouring Hot Water on Teenage Niece

A 45-year-old woman, Taiwo Adeoye, has been remanded at the Ijebu Ode Correctional Centre by a Magistrate Court sitting in Ijebu Imushin, Ogun State, for allegedly pouring hot water on her 13-year-old niece, Modinat Adeoye.

The court ordered her remand pending the perfection of the N3 million bail granted to her.

The Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.

According to Babaseyi, the suspect was arrested for allegedly inflicting grievous injuries on the teenager at Ijebu Imusin after accusing her of “following men around.”

He explained that the incident occurred on April 13, 2026, at about 3:30 pm at No. 13 Odomogun Area, Imusin. The case was reported to the police, prompting detectives attached to the division to respond immediately.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect, who is the victim’s aunt and with whom the teenager resides, allegedly poured hot water on her, causing severe burns across parts of her body.

Babaseyi added that detectives visited the scene, rescued the victim, and ensured her immediate transfer to a medical facility where she is currently receiving treatment.

The suspect was later arraigned before the Magistrate Court in Ijebu Imushin and remanded at the Ijebu Ode Correctional Centre pending the perfection of her bail conditions.

The police command condemned all forms of violence and abuse against children and reiterated its commitment to protecting vulnerable members of society.
