Ogun Developer Alleges Intimidation by Armed Men Over Land

A real estate developer in Ogun State has reported ongoing intimidation and threats by armed individuals over a parcel of land in the Denro community, Ifo Local Government Area.

Kunle Owolabi, founder of Rigini Homes Limited, stated that his company legally acquired 14 acres of land in 2019, with 11 acres and four plots fully documented and granted official special numbers. He explained that the project, funded significantly by Nigerians in the diaspora, represents an investment exceeding ₦1 billion, with an expected return of about ₦8 billion.

According to Owolabi, the issue began in November when unknown persons allegedly destroyed the property’s boundary pillars overnight. After rebuilding them at a cost of approximately ₦1.6 million, the pillars were again demolished the following day.

He claims that individuals later began appearing on the land armed with guns and other weapons, and that he was advised to offer them money to halt the harassment. Owolabi said he reported the matter to the police and petitioned the state’s land grabber unit in Abeokuta, but asserts that no effective action has been taken.

Owolabi emphasized that the land was acquired through due process and warned that such incidents of land grabbing risk discouraging genuine investment in the state’s real estate sector.

When contacted for comment, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command had not responded at the time of reporting.
