Ogun police arrest tailor over fake bandit attack video posted on social media

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a man identified as Qawiyu Oloyede, a resident of Sokoto Road in Atan-Ota, for sharing a fabricated video of a bandit attack on social media. Authorities said the post was designed to create fear and panic over a nonexistent invasion.
A video later surfaced online showing Oloyede being questioned by police officers about the incident. The suspect, who works as a tailor, reportedly admitted that he created the fake bandit attack video to gain more followers on social media.
During interrogation, Oloyede told the police that the person featured as a Fulani bandit was actually a herder who regularly brought his cattle to graze behind his shop. He added that the herder had been reluctant to take part in the act.
Oloyede further stated that he is illiterate and unable to read or write, and that his apprentice wrote the caption that accompanied the video. He also confessed to having posted two such fake videos one on Monday and another on Wednesday.
The state police spokesperson confirmed the arrest and said the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further action.
