Ondo First Lady Urges Parents to Prioritize Children’s Care Amidst Hard Times
Ondo State’s First Lady, Mrs. Seun Aiyedatiwa, has appealed to parents in the state to prioritize their children’s care and well-being despite the economic challenges facing the country. She emphasized that children are precious gifts from God and should be nurtured and cared for accordingly.
Mrs. Aiyedatiwa made the appeal on Wednesday evening at the Children’s Christmas Carol event organized by the state government in Akure, the state capital. She urged parents not to abandon their responsibilities, citing the importance of providing a stable and loving environment for their children to thrive.
“Please, let us take care of these children. Don’t behave like those who say children are not the future of tomorrow because of the challenges currently confronting the country,” she said, appealing to parents to be more involved in their children’s lives.
The First Lady also stressed the importance of parents listening to their children and being close to them, saying it was crucial in helping them navigate negative peer pressure. “I also urge parents to listen to these children; that is very important because there is peer pressure out there. Even when you are tired, still endeavour to listen to them,” she pleaded.
The event, which brought together children from different organizations across the state, provided an opportunity for interactive engagement with the governor’s wife. The state Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr. Seun Osamaye, said children between the ages of five and ten were carefully selected for the programme, noting that it was aimed at fostering a sense of connection and community among the young ones.
In her remarks, Dr. Osamaye expressed her delight at seeing the children enjoy themselves, saying it was a testament to the state’s commitment to their welfare and development. The event featured carol singing, performances, and gift-giving, leaving the children beaming with joy and excitement.
