Ondo Govt Begins Emergency Repairs on Damaged Iwaro–Oka Road

The Ondo State Government has begun immediate remedial work on a damaged section of the Iwaro–Oka Road in Oka-Akoko, Akoko South West Local Government Area, following concerns over the condition of the federal highway.

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa directed the Commissioner for Infrastructure, Lands and Housing, Engr. Ayorinde Abiola Olawoye, to assess the affected section and begin intervention without delay.

Olawoye subsequently led technical officials from the state Ministry of Works and Infrastructure to the site for an on-the-spot assessment. Equipment and personnel were also mobilised to begin remedial work on the damaged portion.

Speaking during the inspection, the commissioner said the state government decided to intervene because of the impact of the road on residents and commuters, despite the highway being under federal ownership.

“Whether it is a state-owned road or a federal highway, once it is within Ondo State and directly affects our people, the Governor will swing into action,” Olawoye said.

He attributed the damage to what he described as a natural occurrence and assured residents that the affected section would be repaired. He said the governor had specifically directed the ministry to assess the situation and respond immediately.

The intervention was welcomed by traditional and community leaders in Oka-Akoko. The Olubaka of Oka, Oba Yusuf Adebori Adeleye, commended the state government for responding to concerns raised over the road.

The monarch described the intervention as evidence of what he called responsive governance and thanked Aiyedatiwa for acting on an infrastructure problem affecting the community.

Also present during the assessment was the Chairman of Akoko South West Local Government, Hon. Ayo Ajana, alongside community leaders and other stakeholders.

The state government did not immediately provide a completion date for the remedial work or disclose the estimated cost of the intervention.
