Ondo Man Arrested for Burning Daughter With Hot Iron Over Bed-Wetting
A man identified as Mr Paul has been arrested and handed over to the Ondo State Police Command after allegedly assaulting his 10-year-old daughter for wetting the bed.
The suspect reportedly pressed a hot iron against the child’s private part as punishment, in an incident that occurred in Upemen Community, Owo Local Government Area of the state.
Ondo State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr Seun Osamaye, disclosed the incident on Tuesday after visiting the girl at the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, where she is being treated. She said the state government acted swiftly once the case was reported to the ministry, and the father has since been handed over to police at the Owo Division for prosecution.
According to Osamaye, the child suffered severe injuries and is due to undergo a second surgery involving skin grafting. She said the Aiyedatiwa administration remains committed to protecting children’s welfare and commended the governor for his continued attention to the case.
Osamaye, who led a delegation from the ministry to check on the child’s recovery following her first surgery, said the state intervened to ensure she received proper medical care and support.
The Medical Director of FMC Owo, Dr Adeyinka Aiyeyemi, who received the delegation, praised the state government for supporting healthcare workers in carrying out their duties. He also recommended psychotherapy for the child’s parents, noting that psychosocial support was needed to address the circumstances surrounding the case, and confirmed that another skin-grafting procedure would be required as part of her ongoing treatment.
State Police spokesperson DSP Abayomi Jimoh confirmed the incident and the arrest, saying detectives from the ‘A’ Division in Owo responded quickly to the scene and took the suspect into custody without delay. The case has since been transferred to the police gender unit for further investigation.
