Ondo Tax Chairman Backs Tinubu’s Tax Reform, Urges Support

Chairman of the Ondo State Internal Revenue Service, Mr Adebayo Rojugbokan.

The Chairman of the Ondo State Internal Revenue Service, Mr Adebayo Rojugbokan, has urged Nigerians to support President Bola Tinubu’s new tax reform, saying it will benefit the country’s economic development. Rojugbokan dismissed fears about the reform, stating it’s aimed at modernising taxation and reducing the number of taxes in Nigeria by 2026.

Speaking at an event in Akure, the state capital, Rojugbokan said taxation is a contribution by individuals for national development and urged taxpayers, banks, and regulators to embrace clarity, compliance, and innovation in the policy. “There’s nothing to fear about the tax reform,” he said, adding that proper taxation can drive national development.

The ODIRS boss highlighted efforts to educate citizens on taxation, using radio, social media, and one-on-one engagements, yielding good results for the state.

President Tinubu had earlier assured Nigerians the policy would bring relief to the poor, low-income earners, and small businesses, saying early indicators show positive outcomes from his administration’s economic reforms.

The Chairman of the Akure Bankers’ Committee, Mr Aina Olumide, commended the state government for providing an enabling environment for banking operations and lauded security agencies for safeguarding financial institutions.
