One Dead, Ten Rescued After Shopping Complex Collapses in Lagos
A three-storey shopping complex collapsed on Thursday in the Alakija area of Lagos State, resulting in one confirmed fatality and the successful rescue of ten individuals. Emergency responders fear that more people remain trapped under the debris.
The incident occurred at approximately 11:40 a.m. along Old Ojo Road, near the Alakija Bus Stop off the Lagos-Badagry Expressway in Satellite Town. The collapse triggered an immediate deployment of emergency teams to the scene to conduct search and rescue operations.
The Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed that rescue efforts are ongoing to extricate any remaining victims buried beneath the building’s rubble. Authorities are working to stabilize the site as recovery operations continue throughout the afternoon.
