Ooni Condemns Oyo School Attack, Calls for United Action Against Kidnapping

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has condemned the recent abduction of students and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, describing the incident as heartbreaking and unacceptable.
The traditional ruler called on security agencies to intensify rescue operations and ensure the safe return of all victims still in captivity. He also urged governments at all levels to strengthen security measures in vulnerable communities, particularly around schools and rural settlements, to prevent future occurrences.
Gunmen had invaded communities along the Ahoro-Esiele/Yawota axis of Ogbomoso, abducting pupils and teachers from local schools. The attack resulted in the death of Assistant Headmaster Joel Adesiyan, a commercial motorcyclist, and one of the abducted teachers, Mr. Michael Oyedokun, who was reportedly killed while in captivity.
Speaking through his Director of Media and Public Affairs, Moses Olafare, the monarch stated that attacks on schools and educational communities represent a direct assault on the nation’s future. He emphasised that children and teachers must never become victims of criminal activities.
Oba Ogunwusi appealed to Nigerians to support security agencies by providing credible information, maintaining vigilance, and fostering community cooperation. He charged citizens to unite in the fight against kidnapping and violent crimes across the country.
