Osun 2026: PDP Faction Led by Ex-Governor Oyinlola Backs APC Candidate Oyebamiji

A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State, led by former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola, has formally endorsed the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, ahead of the upcoming governorship election.

Speaking at an endorsement event in Osogbo, Oyinlola stated that his group decided to withdraw support for incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke due to a perceived lack of inclusiveness in governance. Joined by key party figures, including former Secretary to the State Government Fatai Akinbade and former PDP National Vice Chairman (Southwest) Tajudeen Oladipo, Oyinlola clarified that the endorsement was made out of a desire for effective leadership in the state, clarifying that the group is not formally defecting from the PDP.

Oyinlola explained that while his faction previously invested significant political capital to support the current administration, key stakeholders were gradually excluded from decision-making processes. He urged Oyebamiji to prioritize good governance, inclusive leadership, economic growth, infrastructure, and public welfare if elected. Supporting leaders Akinbade and Oladipo also called on PDP members across the state to vote for the APC candidate in the interest of state progress.

The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, welcomed the decision, describing Oyinlola as a major political figure whose backing strengthens the APC’s campaign platform. Responding to the endorsement, Oyebamiji expressed confidence in his electoral prospects, attributing his momentum to broad support across various demographics in the state, and promised to run an inclusive administration if victorious.

Attempts to reach Osun State PDP Chairman Sunday Bisi for comment regarding the faction’s declaration were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
