Osun Health Workers Urged to Prioritize Diagnostic Tests

Medical professionals and traditional birth attendants in Osun State’s Irewole/Isokan/Ayedaade Federal Constituency have been urged to conduct thorough diagnostic investigations before treating patients.
This call was made at the 3rd biennial conference for primary healthcare providers and trado-medical birth attendants, organized by Medical Radiographer/Sonographer Adeyemi Adeniji in Ikire, Osun State.
Over 200 participants, including traditional birth attendants, healthcare workers, nurses, and doctors, attended the conference, which aimed to enhance their capacity and expose them to current medical trends.
Adeniji lamented the prevalence of quackery in the profession, citing the need for quality diagnostic services, and established a diagnostic centre in Ikire to address this issue.
Dr. Samuel Obasade, a resource person, emphasized the importance of diagnostic investigations in modern medicine, stating that 70% of treatment decisions rely on investigation results.
He called for proper legislation and law enforcement to eradicate quackery. Participants, like nurse Oyetade Aderemi, stressed the importance of laboratory investigations in medical case management.
The conference is part of efforts to address the lack of refresher training for health workers in Nigeria. The National Primary Health Care Development Agency previously announced plans to train 120,000 frontline health workers in integrated service delivery.
