Oyo NUT Celebrates Rescue of Abducted Teachers and Students After 56 Days in Captivity
The Oyo State Wing of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has expressed profound relief and joy following the successful rescue of school teachers and pupils who were abducted in the Oriire Local Government Area of the state.
In a joint statement issued by the state Chairman, Hassan Fatai, and Secretary, Olukayode Salami, the union described the safe return of the victims as a monumental victory for humanity and a major boost to the confidence of the state’s education sector. The educators and learners were freed after spending 56 days in captivity.
The union commended the federal government under President Bola Tinubu and the Oyo State Government led by Governor Seyi Makinde for demonstrating the necessary political will and deploying resources to ensure the victims were released unharmed. The NUT also praised the courage, synergy, and professionalism exhibited by the security agencies involved in the rescue operation.
While celebrating the safe return of the survivors, the union extended its deep condolences to the families of colleagues who tragically lost their lives during the incident.
The leadership of the union urged all tiers of government to intensify security measures around schools and communities across the nation. The NUT emphasized that every child has the right to learn in a safe environment, and every educator deserves to teach without fear, reiterating its commitment to supporting safe-school initiatives moving forward.
