Police Arrest 20-Year-Old Suspected Terrorist in Kwara
Operatives of the Kwara State Police Command, in collaboration with the National Forest Guards and the Kaiama Vigilante Group, have arrested a 20-year-old suspect, Mallami Abubakar, over alleged links to ISWAP and Lakurawa terrorist organisations.
The arrest took place on April 1, 2026, around 8:00 am, during a routine patrol in Nanu, Kaiama Local Government Area of the state.
According to the police, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect, who hails from Isanlu Dankuturu in Kogi State, was contacted on March 30 by an accomplice identified only as ‘Babi’ from Babana Village in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.
The accomplice reportedly invited Abubakar to travel to Farinsuni via Baruten Local Government Area, with the intention of joining a group believed to be affiliated with the terrorist networks.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed the development in a statement on Saturday. She noted that the suspect is currently in police custody, and a full investigation is underway to determine the extent of his involvement and to apprehend other individuals linked to the case.
The Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, reiterated the command’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents. He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest security agency.
