Police Arrest Armed Robbery Suspects, Recover Weapons in Plateau
Operatives of the Plateau State Police Command have arrested several armed robbery suspects, including individuals believed to be informants for bandits, in a series of intelligence-led operations. Authorities also recovered three locally fabricated AK-47 rifles and other dangerous weapons.
The command paraded the suspects and exhibits before journalists at the headquarters in Jos on Saturday. Commissioner of Police, CP Bassey Ewah, commended members of the public for providing credible information that contributed to the successes.
Mr Ewah stated that the operations demonstrate the command’s commitment to the safety of residents. He also noted that the police remain open to public scrutiny as a means of improving service delivery.
“We are open to criticism because it is only when you are criticised that you know where you are not doing well,” he said.
The commissioner highlighted the arrest of armed robbery suspects in Langtang South, which followed a report from a victim. He explained that the Divisional Police Officer worked with the Armed Robbery Section of the Criminal Investigation Department to achieve the result.
Among the items recovered were three locally fabricated AK-47 rifles, two locally made revolvers, and several pistols and rubber guns. Mr Ewah attributed the recovery to actionable intelligence from the public.
“We want to thank our partners out there for believing in us, for trusting in us, and sharing information that has led to the removal of these firearms,” he added.
He disclosed that the suspects, including those linked to kidnapping and banditry through information sharing, would be charged to court.
The CP also praised the Plateau State Ministry of Justice for its role in ensuring diligent prosecution of cases and thanked the media for publicising the command’s efforts. He called for continued collaboration to enhance security in the state.
All recovered exhibits were displayed during the briefing. Mr Ewah assured that the owners of the rifles would face charges, adding that the court would determine the legality of their possession.
