Police Arrest Five Over Illegal Arms Stash in Oyo
The Oyo State Police Command has taken five suspects into custody following the discovery of illegal firearms and other incriminating items at a property linked to a former member of the Park Management System, Surajudeen Adio, widely known as “Suri Ilupeju.”
The suspects were paraded on Wednesday at the police headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan, by the command’s spokesperson, Olayinka Ayanlade, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Abimbola. Among those arrested is Muideen Adio, the son of the primary suspect, who is currently at large.
According to police reports, the investigation into the property was triggered after the elder Adio allegedly threatened to shoot an individual, who subsequently filed a formal report with law enforcement. The command noted that investigations remain ongoing as authorities work to track down the fleeing suspect and determine the full scope of criminal activity associated with the location.
This arrest follows a recent state government initiative aimed at dismantling properties allegedly utilized for criminal operations. Earlier this month, a building linked to a kidnapping syndicate was demolished by the Ministry of Public Works and Transportation after security forces successfully rescued three victims and neutralized several suspects involved in the abduction of the sister and nephews of a former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu.
While the police continue their inquiry into the arms discovery, the paraded suspects have denied any direct involvement in the alleged crimes. They maintained during the parade that they had visited the primary suspect’s premises solely to request financial assistance rather than to participate in any illegal activities.
The command concluded by reassuring residents of its unwavering commitment to maintaining public order and intensifying efforts to curb criminal activities across the state.
