Police Arrest Man Over N48.5 Million Romance Scam at Lagos Airport
The Lagos Airport Police Command has arrested a 24-year-old man, Precious Onudhona, for his alleged involvement in a romance scam syndicate that defrauded victims of approximately N48.5 million.
Onudhona was apprehended on February 2, 2026, at a Lagos airport while attempting to board a flight to Asaba, Delta State, following actionable intelligence received by the police.
According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammed Adeola, preliminary investigations indicate that Onudhona joined the fraud syndicate in 2023. The group reportedly targeted victims on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram using fabricated identities.
Police allege that the suspect operated under the alias “Travis Kevin,” posing as a white American medical doctor. He is accused of using a fake banking domain to display false account balances and persuading victims to send money, claiming he needed funds for feeding and medical care after sustaining fictitious injuries.
The illicit proceeds were reportedly received through cryptocurrency transactions.
The Commissioner of Police for the Airport Command, CP Ogunbode Olufunke, has ordered a thorough investigation and directed efforts to apprehend other members of the syndicate. She reaffirmed the Command’s zero-tolerance policy toward criminal activities within the aviation sector.
The suspect is set to be transferred to the Interpol section for further investigation and prosecution.
