Police Arrest Suspects Following Ambush on Officers in Delta State

The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of several suspects in connection with an attack on police officers earlier this week. The incident occurred on January 30, 2026, along Ogbofu Road at the boundary between the Akukwu-Igbo and Ugbolu communities in Oshimili North Local Government Area.

According to a statement released by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, a police team from the Akukwu-Igbo Division was conducting a routine stop-and-search operation when they were ambushed by assailants armed with machetes. The team, led by an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and comprising four other officers, came under attack. One officer sustained severe head injuries and was promptly taken to the Specialist Hospital in Asaba for medical treatment.

In response to the attack, the Commissioner of Police, CP Aina Adesola, ordered an immediate deployment of operatives to the area to restore order and launched a manhunt for the perpetrators.

“Following prompt police deployment, operatives in a sting operation have arrested some suspects connected to the incident,” the statement read. It confirmed that those in custody are providing useful information for the ongoing investigation.

CP Aina Adesola issued a strong warning, condemning unprovoked attacks on law enforcement. He emphasized that such violence would not be tolerated and that no extremist or violent groups would be allowed to operate within the state.

“The command will deal decisively with any person or group that threatens public peace or attacks law enforcement officers,” the Commissioner stated.

The Police Command has reassured residents of its commitment to safety and the rule of law, urging the public to remain calm. They have also appealed for credible information from the community to aid in apprehending other suspects still at large.
