Police in Enugu Arrest Four, Seize Drugs and N1.8 Million in Crackdown

The Enugu State Police Command has announced the arrest of four suspected drug peddlers and the recovery of N1.8 million in cash, alongside large quantities of suspected illicit drugs, in targeted operations.

According to a statement by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, the arrests were made by the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team and the Anti-Cultism Squad in separate intelligence-led raids within the Enugu metropolis.

In the first operation on January 26, SWAT operatives raided a hideout behind New Market, arresting a 46-year-old woman, Omeru Nkechi. Items recovered from her included a large bag of suspected Indian hemp, a POS machine, assorted wires, and N1.8 million in cash.

A day earlier, on January 25, the Anti-Cultism Squad raided black spots in Obeagu, Asata, and Holy Ghost Railway areas. Three male suspects Anielozie Emmanuel (21), Ekoh Miracle (20), and Nwachukwu Michael (27) were apprehended. Police recovered numerous containers and sachets of suspected cannabis, as well as wrapped pills believed to be hard drugs. Nwachukwu is additionally suspected of being a member of the Vikings Confraternity.

The statement noted that discreet investigations are ongoing to identify other members of the drug networks and dismantle their operations.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to sustaining the fight against drug abuse, cultism, and all forms of criminality in the state.
