Police in Kano Arrest Four, Seize Large Quantity of Suspected Cannabis

The Kano State Police Command has arrested four suspects and recovered large quantities of substances suspected to be cannabis sativa in separate operations across the state.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Command’s spokesperson, Abdullahi Kiyawa, the arrests were made during sustained, intelligence-led patrols.

In the first incident on Sunday, officers from the Fagge Division intercepted a tricycle at Triumph Roundabout. A search revealed two sacks containing 157 parcels of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis. Two suspects, Amadu Ado and Salisu Lurwanu, both from Kulliya Village in Bunkure Local Government Area, were arrested.

In a second operation on January 24, the Command’s Rapid Response Team raided identified black spots in Kano metropolis. This led to the arrest of Usman Hamisu, 22, and Auwal Abdullahi, 25. Recovered from them were 40 pieces of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis, 20 pieces of rubber solution, half a roll of similar leaves, and 10 small bottles of a substance known as ‘Suck and Die’.

The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, commended the officers involved. The statement reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to combating drug trafficking and abuse, urging the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities through provided emergency contact numbers.
