Police Intercept Major Illicit Drug Shipment in Borno

Borno State Police have intercepted a large consignment of illicit substances intended for smuggling across the international border. Operatives from the Command’s X-Squad seized 55 sacks filled with 60ml bottles of a substance locally known as “Gumm” during an operation on the Baga Road-Bypass in Maiduguri.

The seizure occurred on the evening of June 26 following credible intelligence received by the police. Officers pulled over an Isuzu Bedford pick-up vehicle and discovered the massive cache hidden within the sacks.

A 51-year-old man, identified as the driver, was taken into custody at the scene. During preliminary questioning, the suspect admitted to being hired to transport the shipment to the Ngamboru Ngala Local Government Area, where it was slated to be moved across the border.

The police command stated that investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend other individuals involved in the trafficking ring. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to curbing the distribution of prohibited substances in the state and are calling on the public to continue providing timely information to assist in crime prevention.
