Police Launch Fraud Reporting App, Boost Digital Fight Against Financial Crimes

The Nigeria Police Force has launched a new digital platform aimed at making it easier for Nigerians to report suspected financial fraud and assist law enforcement agencies in tackling economic crimes.

The platform, known as the NPF Vigilant App, was unveiled on Tuesday in Abuja as part of the force’s efforts to leverage technology for improved service delivery and public engagement.

Designed for public use, the application allows users to report suspected fraud cases, upload relevant evidence, monitor the progress of investigations, and receive feedback from authorities. The platform is expected to strengthen collaboration between citizens, financial institutions, and law enforcement agencies in addressing financial crimes.

In addition to the app, the police also introduced a dedicated communication network for officers across the country. The network is intended to enhance coordination, support rapid response during emergencies, and improve operational communication among personnel.

Police authorities described the initiatives as key components of an ongoing digital transformation programme aimed at building a more responsive, efficient, and technology-driven police force.

They noted that the adoption of digital tools would not only improve crime reporting but also promote greater transparency and public confidence in policing services.

The force further emphasised that all technology-driven solutions would be deployed in line with legal and ethical standards, with due consideration for privacy, data protection, and accountability.

Nigerians were encouraged to download the application from approved mobile app stores and use it responsibly when reporting suspected cases of financial fraud.

The police also acknowledged the contributions of stakeholders from the banking, fintech, telecommunications, and financial services sectors who supported the development and deployment of the platform.
