Police Rescue 11 Kidnapped Farmers in Edo State

Eleven individuals who were abducted while working on their farms have been rescued by police in the Ogbido community of Iyahmo, Edo North.

The rescue operation was launched following a distress call received by the Iyahmo Divisional Police. Officers, supported by local vigilante groups and hunters, tracked the suspects to a nearby forest, where a fierce gun battle ensued. According to police authorities, the security team’s superior tactical response overwhelmed the kidnappers, forcing them to abandon their captives and flee deeper into the woods.

All 11 victims nine men and two women were rescued unhurt. Following the operation, they were taken to a hospital for medical evaluation before being reunited with their families.

Edo State Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, praised the collaborative effort of the police and local community security volunteers. He assured residents that the command has intensified patrols in the area and remains fully committed to ensuring public safety. Authorities are currently pursuing leads to track down the suspects who escaped during the encounter and have encouraged the public to continue reporting suspicious activities.
