Police Rescue Woman, Six Children from Kidnappers in Zamfara
Operatives of the Zamfara State Police Command have rescued a woman and her six children who were abducted by suspected gunmen in Gusau Local Government Area.
The victims were kidnapped on Wednesday night when armed assailants invaded their residence in the Nasarawa area of Damba District. The attack occurred around 10:50 p.m., according to the Police Public Relations Officer, Yazid Abubakar.
In a statement on Thursday, Abubakar said the husband of the victims, Muhammad Lawal, quickly alerted a nearby police division, prompting an immediate response.
The Divisional Police Officer mobilised a patrol team to the scene, where operatives engaged the kidnappers in a gun battle.
“The team engaged the bandits in a fierce confrontation, forcing them to abandon the victims and flee,” the statement read. “Subsequently, all the victims were successfully rescued unhurt and safely reunited with their families.”
The command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property and urged residents to provide timely and credible information to security agencies.
The rescue comes days after a counter-insurgency platform reported that 15 kidnap victims were rescued in Bungudu Local Government Area. Those victims, abducted in December 2025, were intercepted by a patrol team during a routine operation. Seven of them reportedly died in captivity, while three others remain missing.
