President Museveni’s Son, as Army Chief, Issues ‘Dead or Alive’ Order for Opposition Leader Bobi Wine

Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has stated that the military has been ordered to capture opposition leader Bobi Wine “dead or alive.” Kainerugaba, who is also the son of President Yoweri Museveni, made the declaration in a now-deleted post on the social media platform X.

The announcement escalates a tense political standoff that began last week when Kainerugaba controversially banned Bobi Wine, whose real name is Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, from future electoral participation.

In his deleted post, Kainerugaba wrote, “We stopped our search for Kabobi for 24 hours… He hasn’t surrendered anywhere. Now our troops have orders to bring him in dead or alive!”

This directive follows a series of military raids on Bobi Wine’s residence in Magere last week. The opposition leader released videos alleging that armed security operatives forcibly broke into his home, vandalized property, and seized documents. He claims his wife, Barbara Kyagulanyi, was held at gunpoint and pressured to reveal his whereabouts.

While confirming the military operation on X, Kainerugaba denied any assault on Bobi Wine’s wife, stating, “My soldiers did not beat up Barbie… We are looking for her cowardly husband, not her.”

Bobi Wine, the leader of the National Unity Platform (NUP) and a former presidential candidate, has raised alarms over his safety. In a statement Monday, he said his home remains under military siege and alleged the violent arrest of thousands of his supporters and the murder of several others.

“Museveni’s criminal son is still looking for me and issuing threats to harm me,” Bobi Wine wrote on X. “All because we challenged Dictator Museveni in an election.”

The situation marks a significant intensification of pressure on the political opposition in Uganda. Bobi Wine has called upon the international community to take note of the developments as he remains in an undisclosed location.
