President Tinubu Commends Team Nigeria’s 24-Medal Tally at Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, Pledges Sports Infrastructure Investment

President Bola Tinubu has officially congratulated Team Nigeria following their performance at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, where the national contingent secured a total of 24 medals.

Nigeria concluded its campaign at the Games with 10 gold, seven silver, and seven bronze medals. In a statement released on Tuesday by Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President commended the contingent’s discipline and perseverance, noting that the athletes represented the nation with dignity on the international stage.

Expressing appreciation to the athletes, coaching staff, administrators, and medical personnel, President Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening sports development across the country. He outlined plans to upgrade training facilities, support administrative institutions, and expand global opportunities for Nigerian athletic talent.

The 24-medal finish in Glasgow builds on Nigeria’s historic performances at recent Commonwealth Games, following a 35-medal outing at the 2022 Games in Birmingham and a 36-medal haul during the 2014 Games in Glasgow.
