President Tinubu to Unveil ₦2.4 Trillion Abuja ‘City Walk’ Project This Thursday

President Bola Tinubu is scheduled to officially unveil the ₦2.4 trillion Abuja City Walk development this Thursday. The ceremony, which marks the commencement of physical construction on the flagship project, will take place from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm at Plot 28, Cadastral Zone C17, Industrial Area II, along the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport corridor in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The 250-hectare mixed-use urban district is being developed by MAG Group (the parent company of MAG International Links Limited) in a joint venture with Link Developments.
As part of the launch, a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will be signed between Link Developments and Saudi royal Prince Khalid bin Saud bin Khalid bin Turki Al Saud, who is expected to address key investors. The Nigeria-Arab Gulf Chamber of Commerce will also deliver commitment remarks, highlighting growing investment interest from the Gulf region in Nigeria’s real estate market.
Key Features of the Abuja City Walk
The mega-development is situated within a designated Free Trade Zone, offering tax incentives and a highly favorable regulatory environment designed to attract long-term foreign direct investment. Designed by the international architecture firm Benoy, the master plan includes several landmark features:
Africa’s Tallest Tower: A projected 450-meter skyscraper that will house premium commercial offices, luxury residences, and hospitality facilities.
Nigeria’s Largest Indoor Arena: A state-of-the-art, 13,000-seat indoor arena built for major sports, culture, and entertainment events.
The Arts District: Roughly 12,000 square meters of dedicated exhibition, gallery, and performance spaces.
“The Living Ravine” Ecological Corridor: A sustainable “Sponge District” designed around wetlands, swales, and green waterways. This system will manage flooding, harvest rainwater, and boost climate resilience. The design has already been shortlisted for the 2026 World Landscape Architecture Awards.
Land Recovery and Economic Impact
The project gained critical momentum following land-recovery reforms led by the FCT Administration under Minister Nyesom Wike. The 250-hectare site in Lugbe, along Airport Road, was originally allocated to the Abuja Technology Village but had remained dormant and undeveloped for over two decades.
To clear the path for the development, the FCT Administration resolved outstanding regulatory issues, issued the Certificate of Occupancy, and committed to constructing the necessary access roads. In return, the developers agreed to adhere to a strict, phased construction schedule.
The joint venture partnership to transform the site was officially signed in June 2025. According to FCT officials, the development is designed to mirror successful international concepts like Dubai’s City Walk, aiming to establish Abuja as a premier regional tourism and investment hub while creating thousands of jobs for local residents.
