Presidential aide labels critics of ex-minister’s family rescue as terrorists

A presidential aide has strongly criticised those questioning the swift rescue of the family of a former minister, accusing them of harbouring a terrorist mindset.

Dada Olusegun, Special Assistant to the President on Social Media, condemned online critics who raised doubts about the operation that freed the sister and twin sons of former Power Minister Adebayo Adelabu. The family members were abducted on June 3 in Ibadan, Oyo State, and rescued on June 6.

In a series of posts on Sunday, Olusegun stated that anyone unhappy about the rescue of a woman and her children, and who engages in conspiracies to downplay law enforcement efforts, already shares the mindset of a terrorist. He further accused some individuals of politicising the incident for gain, describing them as soulless and alleging that they were using the kidnapping as political ammunition.

The aide also pushed back against claims that the current administration had similarly undermined rescue efforts when it was in opposition. He insisted that his side never celebrated the misfortunes of others and accused critics of losing their humanity.

The rescue has generated mixed reactions online. While some praised the security agencies for their swift action, others pointed out disparities in response times compared to other kidnapping cases in Oyo State, including the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in the Ogbomoso area. Critics argued that high-profile victims often receive faster attention than ordinary citizens.
