Sanwo-Olu Hails Hamzat’s Emergence as Lagos APC Guber Candidate

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has congratulated his deputy, Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, following his emergence as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress for the 2027 Lagos governorship election.
Sanwo-Olu’s congratulatory message was seen on his X handle on Friday, May 22, where he described Hamzat as a committed leader with a strong passion for the development of Lagos State.
The governor said he had worked closely with the deputy governor for several years and expressed confidence in his ability to lead the state to greater achievements.
“Congratulations to my brother and Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, on emerging as the APC Lagos Governorship candidate for the 2027 elections,” Sanwo-Olu wrote.
“We have worked side by side for years and I know firsthand his deep love for Lagosians, his brilliance, and his unwavering dedication to progress.”
Sanwo-Olu added that despite the challenges ahead, he remained optimistic that Lagos would continue to record greater progress under Hamzat’s leadership.
“The work ahead is massive, but with Femi, I am absolutely confident that our state will reach even greater heights,” he stated.
The governor also urged members of the party and residents of the state to remain united in pursuit of continued development.
“Let us stay united and keep moving Lagos forward,” he added.
Hamzat, had emerged as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress for the 2027 election following the party’s direct primary conducted across the state.
Hamzat defeated his challenger, Lanre Jim-Kamal, in the exercise which party officials described as peaceful and transparent.
The deputy governor’s emergence followed endorsements from influential structures within the Lagos APC, including the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), while some other aspirants had stepped down ahead of the primary.
Among those who withdrew from the race in support of Hamzat were Babajide Adeniran, popularly known as Jandor, and Samuel Mawuyon Àjọṣe, also known as SMA Gold.
