Security Forces Apprehend Six High-Profile Suspects, Recover Weapons Cache in Enugu

Joint security operatives in Enugu State have arrested six wanted suspects linked to major security breaches and intercepted a substantial cache of military-grade weaponry.

Governor Peter Mbah confirmed the breakthrough during a visit to the Enugu State headquarters of the Department of State Services (DSS), where he inspected the confiscated arms alongside state security chiefs.

The recovered inventory included a General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG), a rocket launcher, 17 AK-47 rifles, a tear-gas gun, two hand grenades, three tear-gas canisters, and 1,071 rounds of various calibers of ammunition. Operatives also recovered several pieces of security uniforms.

According to authorities, the apprehended individuals had been on the state’s security watch list for their alleged involvement in violent crimes, including a December incident that resulted in the deaths of several security personnel. While some accomplices were arrested previously, the six individuals detained in this operation had been evading law enforcement.

Governor Mbah credited the successful operation to ongoing investments in state security infrastructure, technology, and inter-agency collaboration between the DSS, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Nigerian Army. He issued a stern warning to active criminal elements to leave the state, emphasizing that law enforcement would continue to track down offenders.

Additionally, the state government reminded property owners of their legal obligation to conduct rigorous background checks on tenants. Landlords were cautioned that the state would proceed with the prosecution of property owners and the demolition of structures found to be harboring criminal networks.

Reflecting on broader national security developments, the administration welcomed federal support for regional policing initiatives, including the recent legislative progress of the State Police Bill in the House of Representatives, noting that localized law enforcement structures remain crucial for effective subnational security governance.
