Security Forces Neutralize Six Armed Bandits in Foiled Zamfara Attack

Joint security forces in Zamfara State have successfully repelled a coordinated assault by armed bandits on Kanoma Town and Gidan Daji Village in the Maru Local Government Area, neutralizing at least six of the attackers.

The incident occurred at approximately 11:00 AM on Tuesday when a heavily armed group carrying high-caliber weapons—including rocket-propelled grenades, general-purpose machine guns, anti-aircraft guns, and assault rifles—attempted to invade the communities.

Responding to a distress call, a combined team consisting of police tactical operatives from the Maru Division, military personnel from Operation Fansar Yamma, members of the Violent Crime Response Unit, and local vigilantes swiftly deployed to the scene.

According to Zamfara State Police Command spokesperson Yazid Abubakar, the security forces engaged the assailants in a fierce gun duel, forcing them to retreat and abandoning their assault. Six of the gunmen, who were operating on two motorcycles, were killed during the confrontation.

Several other attackers managed to escape into the surrounding forests with suspected gunshot wounds. Security officials confirmed that no casualties or injuries were recorded among the residents or the responding security personnel.

In the wake of the failed attack, authorities have reinforced security in the area with sustained patrols to maintain peace, reassure local communities, and track down the fleeing suspects. The command urged residents to continue collaborating with law enforcement by providing timely, actionable intelligence.

This successful operation comes just a day after a similar joint security response successfully repelled a two-hour bandit assault along Gadar Manya in the state’s Anka Local Government Area.
