Senator Ndume Demands Military Shift Attention to Borno Captives Following Oyo Rescue
The Senator representing Borno South, Ali Ndume, has appealed to Nigeria’s security agencies to swiftly replicate the tactical success achieved in Oyo State by intensifying operations to rescue dozens of his constituents who remain in the custody of insurgents and kidnappers.
Speaking on a national television program, the lawmaker urged the military high command to pivot its operational focus toward Borno South. The passionate plea followed the successful rescue of schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State who had spent over 50 days in captivity.
While welcoming the safe return of the Oyo victims, Ndume drew urgent attention to the worsening humanitarian and security crisis in his home district, revealing that multiple groups of citizens are currently being held hostage across various locations.
“I want to use this opportunity to appeal to the military to shift their attention now to my senatorial district and help us get these people back,” Ndume stated. “Our people, our children in my senatorial district are under captivity 42 of them. We have over 30 people from Lassa who were captured recently.”
The lawmaker further disclosed that more than 50 residents are being held in another separate location. While noting that a portion of the original 400 abducted individuals in the region had managed to secure their release, Ndume emphasized that a significant number of citizens remain trapped in captivity, necessitating urgent federal intervention.
