Shettima Returns from Leave Two Days Early
Vice President Kashim Shettima has cut short his two-week leave, returning to Abuja on Tuesday evening, August 18, two days ahead of his scheduled return date of August 20.
According to senior officials within the Vice President’s office, Shettima arrived back in the country and has officially resumed his duties. However, he was notably absent from Wednesday’s Federal Executive Council meeting chaired by President Bola Tinubu at the State House.
The Vice President had proceeded on leave on August 6 with President Tinubu’s approval—his first break since assuming office in May 2023. His media aide, Stanley Nkwocha, had earlier stated that the leave period was intended for study, reflection, and intellectual renewal, allowing the Vice President to review ongoing administration programmes and deepen his understanding of emerging policy issues.
Shettima’s early return comes as the Independent National Electoral Commission announces the commencement of campaigns for the 2027 elections, beginning August 19.
Since taking office, the Vice President has been actively involved in coordinating strategic government initiatives, particularly in economic development, food security, humanitarian affairs, digital transformation, job creation, and regional cooperation. He also chairs the National Economic Council, which comprises the 36 state governors, the Central Bank Governor, and other key officials.
