Shettima to Launch ITF Business Incubation Programme for Nigerian Artisans

Vice President Kashim Shettima is set to unveil a new business incubation initiative designed to help Nigerian artisans transform their skills into sustainable enterprises.

The Industrial Training Fund announced on Tuesday that the programme aims to bridge the gap between skills acquisition and business development by providing comprehensive support to graduates of its SUPA Programme.

Under the initiative, selected artisans will receive entrepreneurship training, mentorship, business support services, and market access. Beneficiaries will also undergo the internationally recognised Start and Improve Your Business training programme and receive assistance with certification and licensing processes.

ITF Director-General Afiz Oluwatoyin Ogun described the initiative as a strategic intervention to convert skilled artisans into successful business owners and employers. He emphasised that the programme provides a structured pathway for artisans to transition into entrepreneurship and contribute to national economic development.

The incubation framework includes provision of tools, equipment, and start-up support packages under defined participation and repayment arrangements to promote ownership and sustainability.

The launch event is expected to attract key government officials including the Ministers of Industry, Trade and Investment, the Special Adviser to the President on MSMEs, the Director-General of SMEDAN, development partners, financial institutions, and artisan associations.

The ITF has incorporated a robust monitoring framework with regular supervision and five-year impact assessments to track business growth, job creation, and youth empowerment outcomes.

Expected outcomes include creation of sustainable artisan-owned businesses, increased employment opportunities, accelerated MSME growth, and enhanced youth economic inclusion.
