Son of Osun Accord Party Women Leader Shot Dead in Ikire

Suspected gunmen have killed Kolade Eluyera, the son of the women leader of the Accord Party in Irewole Local Government Area of Osun State.

The incident occurred late on Friday near the Onireke Mosque in Ikire, according to a statement issued on Saturday by the Imole Campaign Council, which is spearheading the re-election bid of Governor Ademola Adeleke.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed that a lifeless body was recovered in the area, with gunshot wounds found on the deceased. He added that an investigation had commenced and that the Commissioner of Police had deployed additional personnel to the community.

In a statement by its spokesperson, Pelumi Olajengbesi, the campaign council alleged that the attack was carried out by suspected thugs loyal to the All Progressives Congress. The council claimed that repeated complaints and security reports about threats against Accord Party members in the local government had not yielded preventive action from law enforcement.

Olajengbesi described the killing as a direct threat to democracy and public peace, and called on the Inspector-General of Police and the Department of State Services to launch an independent probe.

However, the APC campaign council dismissed the allegation. Its co-chairman for media and publicity, Kola Olabisi, urged the Accord Party not to politicise the death.

He described the accusation as fabricated and aimed at smearing the APC, insisting that the party’s governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, is a gentleman who would not condone violence. Olabisi called for a proper police investigation to identify the real perpetrators.
