Super Falcons Clash With Cameroon for WAFCON Semi-Final Spot and World Cup Ticket

Nigeria’s Super Falcons will face the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon in a high-stakes 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) quarter-final match at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca on Sunday evening. The winner will secure a spot in the tournament’s semi-finals as well as direct qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil, while the loser will be forced into the African play-off route.

The defending champions experienced a turbulent group stage, opening with a 3–2 loss to Malawi before securing a 1–0 win over Zambia and finishing strong with a 6–2 victory over Egypt to finish second in Group C. In contrast, Cameroon topped Group D undefeated following wins over Mali and Ghana, alongside a draw against Cape Verde.

Super Falcons head coach Justine Madugu emphasized that the team’s core objective remains securing World Cup qualification and retaining the continental title. Squad members also noted that recent training sessions focused on addressing defensive errors exposed during the group matches.

Nigeria holds a strong historical record against Cameroon, including a 1–0 victory over the Lionesses at the same quarter-final stage in the 2022 edition. While top-ranked Nigeria enters as the favorited side, Cameroon aims to reach its first WAFCON semi-final since 2016.
