Suspected Cult Clash Claims Life of Community Prince in Delta

A man identified as Idjesa, said to be a prince in the Ughelli community, has been killed in a suspected cult clash between rival groups in Delta State.

The incident occurred on Sunday night, according to reports from the anti-cultism advocacy platform Naija Confra. The platform stated that while two individuals were reportedly shot, only one fatality Idjesa had been confirmed. Another victim escaped with bullet wounds.

“Despite reports of several killings by cultists, Naija Confra confirmed only this victim as dead,” the platform noted on Telegram. It also referenced unconfirmed claims that a policeman was killed over the weekend.

In a strong response, the Executive Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Area, Olorogun Egbo, condemned the attack in a post on Facebook. He issued a stern warning to those involved, stating, “For those killers hiding behind cultism in Ughelli, we have your dossiers. Your leaders will pay a heavy price. You will be hunted down and face the full weight of the law.”

Efforts to reach the State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, for comment were unsuccessful, as calls and a text message went unanswered at the time of filing this report.

The killing adds to a recurring pattern of cult-related violence in Delta State, which has claimed several lives and left many injured in recent weeks. In October, Hamattan News  reported the killing of a carpenter, Ovoke, in a suspected cult attack in the Warri area.
