Tambuwal Mourns Former Kogi Gov Ibrahim Idris

Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has expressed profound sadness over the passing of former Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris (Ibro), CON, Jakadan Sokoto.

Idris died on Sunday, 20 September 2026, at the age of 77. He served as Governor of Kogi State from 2003 until January 2012.

In a condolence message posted on his X handle, Tambuwal described the former governor as a respected elder statesman, accomplished businessman and political leader who devoted a significant part of his life to the service of his people and the country.

He noted that Idris’ years at the helm of affairs in Kogi State constituted an important chapter in the political and developmental history of the state.

Tambuwal also recalled the late former governor’s ability to build and maintain relationships beyond political, ethnic and regional boundaries, noting that he earned the respect of associates and contemporaries across the country.

According to the former Sokoto State Governor, the death of Idris represents a loss not only to his immediate family and the people of Kogi State, but also to the wider political family and Nigeria.

Tambuwal extended his heartfelt condolences to the Idris family, the Government and people of Kogi State, as well as friends, associates and all those mourning the former governor.

He prayed Almighty Allah to forgive the shortcomings of the deceased, accept his good deeds and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus, while also granting his family and loved ones the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

The Kogi State Government has declared three days of mourning in honour of the former governor and announced that he will be accorded a state burial.
