Tinubu Approves New NERC Board, Oseni Named Chairman

President Bola Tinubu has given the green light to the reconstituted Board of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), following the Senate’s confirmation of its members on December 16. The announcement was made by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, in a statement on Thursday.

Dr Mulisiu Olalekan Oseni has been appointed to head the commission as Chairman, a role he assumed on December 1, 2025. Oseni, who joined NERC as a commissioner in January 2017, will serve out the remainder of his 10-year term, as stipulated by the Electricity Act, 2023. Dr Yusuf Ali has been named Vice Chairman, also effective December 1, 2025.

The reconstituted board includes seasoned professionals such as Mr Nathan Rogers Shatti, Mr Dafe Akpeneye, and Mrs Aisha Mahmud Kanti Bello, all serving second terms, as well as Dr Chidi Ike and Dr Fouad Animashaun, who are serving their first terms. Animashaun, an energy economist, previously led the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission.

In his charge to the new board, President Tinubu urged them to build on the progress made in the power sector, ensuring strict adherence to the Electricity Act, 2023.
