Tinubu Dissolves Federal Property Privatisation Body, Transfers Responsibilities to Justice Ministry

President Bola Tinubu has approved the immediate dissolution of the Presidential Implementation Committee (PIC) on the Alienation of Federal Government Properties, bringing an end to the 25-year-old body.

Under the directive, all functions, oversight, and pending matters previously managed by the committee have been transferred to the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Presidential Adviser on Information and Strategy Bayo Onanuga disclosed that the dissolution takes retroactive effect from November 5, 2025. Former PIC Secretary B. S. Dutsin-Ma has been instructed to cease all activities and representation on behalf of the committee and the Federal Government.

The Presidency explained that the decision followed an administrative review which concluded the PIC had exceeded its original remit, resulting in widespread litigation that made its continued existence untenable.

Established in 2000 during the administration of President Olusegun Obasanjo, the PIC was tasked with managing the sale, lease, and monetisation of government-owned landed assets. While designed to reduce public expenditure and streamline property management, the implementation was marred over the decades by valuation disputes, allegations of irregular sales, and persistent legal challenges.
