Tinubu Mourns Passing of Naval Chief Rear Admiral Musa Katagum

President Bola Tinubu has expressed sadness over the death of the Chief of Naval Operations of the Nigerian Navy, Rear Admiral Musa Katagum, who passed away on Thursday after a protracted illness.

In a statement issued on Friday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President extended condolences to the family of the deceased, as well as officers and men of the Nigerian Navy and the leadership of the Armed Forces.

The statement quoted the President as describing Rear Admiral Katagum’s passing as a significant loss to the military and the nation, given his vast experience and invaluable contributions to the Nigerian Navy and the Armed Forces at large.

The late senior officer held several key positions throughout his career, including Director of Presidential Communication, Command and Control Centre, and Chief of Intelligence of the Nigerian Navy. He was appointed Chief of Naval Operations in November 2025.

President Tinubu commended the late rear admiral for his valour, leadership qualities, and commitment to mentoring younger officers. He also prayed for the repose of his soul and for comfort for his family and colleagues during this period of mourning.

Harmattan news reports that Rear Admiral Katagum died in Egypt, where he was receiving medical treatment, and has since been buried in accordance with Islamic rites.
