Nigerian actress and singer, Tonto Dikeh, has opened up about her tumultuous past, revealing a journey of survival, addiction, and ultimately, spiritual renewal. Speaking at Streams of Joy International in Abuja, the 40-year-old shared a candid and emotional testimony of her struggles with childhood trauma, substance abuse, and destructive habits.
Dikeh, known for her bold performances in Nollywood films, revealed that she began smoking at the age of 13, a habit she attributed to early exposure at home. For 27 years, she struggled with nicotine addiction, with her body craving cigarettes daily. However, she experienced a turning point, describing it as a divine intervention, which brought lasting freedom from addiction.
“I lived with demonic anger that destroyed my life. I am 40 years old and I never knew what peace was until now,” she told the congregation. Dikeh also admitted to struggling with alcoholism, recounting how she would consume large bottles of vodka alone at home, losing consciousness. She has since been freed from alcohol dependency.
The actress also revealed she had been delivered from masturbation and healed from chronic back pain that plagued her for two decades. She attributed her healing to prayers and a newfound faith. Dikeh reflected on past spiritual engagements, stating she once participated in practices she now believes were not meant for her, but has since gained clarity about her faith and identity.
Addressing disturbing sexual encounters in her dreams from childhood, Dikeh said her experiences ended after attending a spiritual conference in Ghana, marking a significant moment of healing in her life. “After that conference, the weak man who assaulted my body ran away. I am free. I am an example of a prodigal child who has returned to God,” she declared.
