Traditional Rulers Demand Fair and Conclusive Trial for Former Minister Diezani Alison-Madueke

Traditional rulers from the Atissa Kingdom in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, have called for fairness and a swift resolution to the long-running legal case involving former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke.

Speaking at a press conference in Yenagoa, the rulers expressed concern that over a decade of investigations has not led to a conviction in Nigeria, leaving the former minister in a state of prolonged legal limbo and effective exile.

HRH Ovie Omeleh, the Paramount Ruler of Yenaka, who addressed journalists on behalf of twelve other leaders, stated that justice delayed for more than ten years undermines fairness. He emphasized Alison-Madueke’s status as a cherished member of the community’s royal lineage.

“Chief (Mrs) Diezani Alison-Madueke remains a vital pillar of the Atissa Kingdom,” Omeleh said. “It is time for this protracted separation to end.”

The rulers highlighted her role in advancing the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development Act, crediting it with transforming local participation in the oil sector. They argued that her legacy in promoting indigenous economic empowerment is a matter of record.

The leaders affirmed their support for their daughter and called for a fair and orderly conclusion to the legal proceedings, which have spanned ten years.
