Tragic House Fire Claims Lives of Six Siblings in Plateau State

A devastating late-night fire in Mangu Town, Plateau State, has resulted in the deaths of six siblings, plunging the community into mourning.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday near the Old Mangu Market area. According to family members, the victims ranged in age from four months to 12 years.

Umar Babangida, an uncle to the children, stated that the blaze erupted around 2 a.m. while the family was asleep. The children’s mother sustained severe burns as she attempted to rescue them and is currently receiving treatment at Allah Nakowa Hospital in Mangu.

“The mother made frantic efforts to bring the children out but was unsuccessful,” Babangida said. The exact cause of the fire remains undetermined, though power was reported to be on in the house prior to the incident.

The family’s loss has drawn widespread sympathy. Governor Caleb Mutfwang and the Chairman of Mangu Local Government Area visited the bereaved family to offer condolences.

During the visit, the Governor urged the family to find solace and promised government support to help rebuild their destroyed home.

Babangida expressed gratitude for the community’s response, noting, “We saw love from both Muslims and Christians who trooped out in their numbers to help during the fire outbreak.”

A resident, Saidu Nasir, confirmed the tragedy, describing the father of the children as a local vulcanizer and asking for prayers for the grieving family.
