Troops Nabs 3 Gun Runners In Zamfara, Rescue 6 Kidnap Victims

Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have intercepted suspected gun runners and rescued six kidnapped victims in two separate operations in Zamfara State on August 23, 2026.

In the first operation, troops from Sector 2 intercepted a vehicle carrying three suspected gun runners along the Kaura Namoda–Shinkafi Road. A search of the vehicle uncovered an AK-103-2 rifle, one magazine and 30 rounds of ammunition concealed inside a bag of millet.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the weapons were destined for Yar-Galadima in Maru Local Government Area. The suspects, along with the recovered weapon, ammunition and other items, are in military custody for further investigation.

In a separate operation on the same day, troops responded swiftly to reports of a terrorist attack on motorists along the Anka–Gummi Road. On arrival, the troops engaged the attackers who were attempting to force their captives into the surrounding forest.

The troops pursued the assailants, forcing them to flee and abandon all six victims. Three of the rescued persons sustained minor injuries and were evacuated to a medical facility. They are said to be in stable condition.

The Joint Task Force said the operations reflect its commitment to cutting off arms supply chains to terrorist networks and neutralizing threats against communities and commuters in the North West.

It commended members of the public for their support and urged residents to provide timely and credible intelligence on suspicious persons, weapons or movements.
