Troops neutralize terrorist in Katsina, rescue victims, recover weapons in Plateau

Troops of the Nigerian Army have neutralized one terrorist during a fierce gun battle in Danmusa Local Government Area of Katsina State and recovered arms.
The Army in a statement on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, said troops also rescued two kidnapped victims along the Maraban-Jema’a road in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.

“Troops of the Nigerian Army deployed for Counter-terrorism operations in the North West in conjunction with a team from the Nigeria Police and Katsina State Community Watch Corps, in a recent fighting patrol made contact with terrorists at Danmusa in Danmusa Local Government Area of Katsina State,” the statement read.

“Troops engaged the terrorists in a fierce gun battle resulting in the neutralization of one terrorist and the recovery of some arms and equipment.
“The successful operation led to the seizure of one AK-47 rifle, two rounds of 7.62 mm (Special) ammunition and a motorcycle. The troops also recovered a bag containing four empty magazines and a power bank, potentially used for communication and explosive devices.
“In a separate incident, troops responded to a distress call on kidnapping activities along the Maraban-Jema’a road in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State. On sighting the troops, the kidnappers fled, abandoning a Peugeot 307 vehicle and two kidnap victims.
“The two kidnap victims, Mr Abdul Bello, who is the owner of the abandoned vehicle and Miss Sekyen Melody Yapshak have been promptly evacuated for medical attention.
These operations underscore the commitment of the Nigerian Army to collaborate with other security agencies to combat kidnapping and violent extremism in the region.
“The swift response and successful outcomes of these engagements demonstrate the effectiveness of interagency cooperation in addressing security challenges in the country.”

Alakija lauds Gov Adeleke for his leadership style in Osun

The Chancellor of Osun State University and  Vice Chairman of FAMFA Oil Limited , Folorunso Alakija has lauded Governor Ademola Adeleke for delivering good governance to the people of Osun state.

Speaking while hosting the Governor at the Ikoyi headquarters of Famfa Oil Limited,  Alakija said she has been following his activities since assuming office, commending the Governor for setting a good leadership example.

Reviewing her tenure as the Chancellor of the Osun State University, the FAMFA boss recalled the conception and stages of completion of the UNIOSUN Medical Research and Training Hospital which she wholly donated and financed.

She noted that the project which is 95 percent completed is designed to serve the health needs of patients from far and near and elevate service to humanity to a higher level.

Earlier, Governor Adeleke who was accompanied by the Vice Chancellor of the Osun State University, Professor Odunayo Clement Adebooye and other state officials, said he was on a thank you visit to the business mogul to appreciate her huge contributions to the growth and development of the state university.

The Governor expressed appreciation for the massive multi-billion naira Medical Research and Training hospital that Alakija is building at the State university, describing FAMFA Boss as “a commendable role model.

EFCC Arrests 32 suspected internet fraudsters in Abuja, Zaria

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Thursday, May 16, 2024 arrested 17 suspected internet fraudsters in Abuja.

The suspects were arrested in the early hours of Thursday, May 16, 2024 at City College, Karu, Abuja.

Items recovered from them include a car, mobile phones, laptops and incriminating documents

Similarly, fifteen suspected internet fraudsters were also arrested by operatives of the commission  in Zaria, Kaduna State.

The suspects were arrested outside the premises of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, following credible intelligence linking a syndicate of fraudsters to suspected involvement in internet fraud.

Items recovered from them include cell phones and laptops.

The suspects were immediately moved to the Kano Zonal Command of the EFCC for more thorough investigation.

They will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.

Military declares terrorist leader, Halilu Buzu wanted

The Nigerian Military has declared Halilu Buzu, pictured above, wanted for terrorist activities, illegal arms supplies, illegal mining, and cattle rustling.

Announcing this in Abuja at the bi-weekly media briefing of the Defence Media Operations, the Director of Operations, Major General Edward Buba, said Halilu Buzu, who is an indigene of Niger, resides in a forest in Zamfara State, and often escapes to the Niger Republic after striking in Nigeria.

General Buba, however, said the military is working with its counterparts from the Niger Republic, to ensure the arrest of the terrorist, who has a lot of boys working for him.

Buba added that troops of the Nigerian Army succeeded in rescuing a total of 253 kidnapped victims in the last two weeks.

According to him, the feat was achieved by the Troops of Operations Y-Watch, the Troops of Nokia-Fighting Patrols, and the Troops of Operations Delta State.

While also announcing the killing of some insurgents, he said the fight against terrorism is one that “must be won.”

Speaking further, Buba also said that the troops neutralised 227 and arrested 529 terrorists. Eleven perpetrators of oil theft were also arrested in the weeks under review.
